Description:

In tribute to his legacy and ongoing contributions to the visual arts in Palestine, Palestinian Art Court – al Hoash honored prominent artist Sliman Mansour in this retrospective reflecting the different facets of his practice over the decades in a single exhibition.  Several themes were prevalent, especially “Jerusalem: The City of Dreams,” which examines the iconic imagery Mansour has created, reflecting the city’s central place in the Palestinian imagination. The “Imprints of Everyday” profiles the artist’s recent works on the landscape of checkpoints and the culture of waiting, most famously at Qalandiya which severs Jerusalem from the West Bank. The artist’s large body of work on the Palestinian landscape is examined in “Terrains of Belonging,” also the name of the exhibition. His early works were dominated by symbolism and the imagery of the Palestinian village that evolved into his famous works in mud, then to his more intimate portrayal of the landscape of the homeland and its connection to individuals over generations. The exhibition also includes archival material from the artist’s personal collection, and Mansour’s portraits.
